Golden Gate Park

Even though you very likely have heard of the Golden Gate Bridge and its association to San Francisco, there is a very good chance that if you are not from the bay area that you haven’t heard of the Golden Gate Park, despite the fact that the two landmarks are situated very close to one another. And also despite the fact that the Golden Gate Park is so much larger than the Golden Gate Bridge.

In fact, I’m sure that you would be very surprised to know that Golden Gate Park is actually bigger than Central Park in New York City. Although Central Park is a lot more famous (perhaps because of East Coast bias), the Golden Gate Park is just as magnificent, or perhaps even more so. There are so many things to do there, making it a perfect place to stop off whether you are a tourist visiting San Francisco for the first time, or are a resident who needs something fun to do on the weekend.

Although there is certainly a lot to do in Golden Gate Park, it is important to recognize that a lot of the park is just basic green grass and walking trails. As a result, you can very easily spend a lot of your time just strolling through the park and enjoying yourself in nature. Or if you want, you can take an early morning run through the park as well to get some quality exercising while enjoying the crisp cold air of San Francisco.

If you have kids or want to just enjoy something a bit more educational, you can also check out the California Academy of Sciences, which is completely situated in the park itself. If you are planning on spending the entire day at the park, this is a great way to knock out a few hours enjoying an indoor setting to complement the rest of your time you will be spending outdoors.

If you want to truly relax and feel totally in Zen, then you should also consider checking out the Japanese Tea Garden in the park. Although it does typically cost a small fee, it is definitely worth it to see a truly beautiful garden. And if you really want to save money in this regard, the garden is free on certain weekdays early in the morning, so you can plan your schedule that way.

Unfortunately, as much as I would like to share all of the greatest things to do in Golden Gate Park, I just simply cannot do it all in a single article, nor would I be doing any of the various locations true justice. If you are overwhelmed by the sheer number of things to do at the park, then you can check out this list to give you a good idea of the best things to do while you are there. No matter what though, if you do decide to incorporate something from the Golden Gate Park into your day, you will most definitely have an enjoyable and memorable time!
